The Rotary Club of Melbourne asked me to attend this event to take photographs and to supply a CD of images.
Project Brief:
To arrive around 6.30pm and to take the following images:
Behind the scenes & audience
Fashion Show
Key People at the event.
Whilst there, I was asked by the Village Voice to take and supply images that could be used to illustrate an editorial piece in the local paper.
The organiser and helpers
Models at the event & on the Catwalk.
Summary:
I found this a really interesting job to undertake, on arrival I checked the lighting which worked well, I did not realise that they would turn the lights off once the show was underway so a quick rethink of my lighting took place. I used a canon ex430 flash gun which I found worked fairly well but had to wait for the models to get closer to me for the best effects.
This created some shadowing on the far wall, which made the images difficult to use as I did not like the effect it created. Luckily I took several images so had plenty to choose from.
I was happy liaising with the Rotary members as they had asked me to attend and take images, however I did not feel comfortable to direct the models and exhibitors at the event, so just took images where I could.
If I were to photograph a similar event then I would definitely have gone backstage and got some more informal images and a group shot of the models together.
Overall I was really pleased with the shots I took and my first image in this piece was published in the November Village Voice, I was also given the credit for the image.
