Emily in Running for marathon money: 3rd March 2013

Emily Starky from Melbourne who is in training for the London Marathon, held a 2 hour fund raising aerobicathon at the 'Picture of Health' fitness studio on Saturday.
Emily, will be running to raise money for Newlands House in Netherseal and is hoping to raise £1800. A teacher at John Taylor High School in Barton Under Needham, Emily began fundraising in December 2012 and this is one of many events that she has planned.

Emily has been in training since she gained her place in the Marathon and will be running the Ashby 20 mile race on March 16th.

The Aerobicathon has so far raised over £160 towards her goal and Emily would like to thank family and friends who have supported her in both taking part in this event and in sponsorship.

Summary:
I was instructed to attend this event at 12 noon and given Emily's contact number, the remit was to take images of people actively engaged in the event and of the event organiser. I did try to contact Emily on the morning of the event but there was no response.
I arrived slightly before noon to find the event was just finishing and that it had started at 10am.
Luckily most of the participants were happy to stage some images for me with excellent results.
The room was quite small and the ceiling fairly low which meant I could bounce the flash to give a softer reflected light.
I had to be aware of the mirror to ensure I did not appear in the shots taken. Ideally I needed a wider angle lens than I had on the camera but I felt under pressure to get the images quickly as the event was over and people were wanting to leave.
I managed to get the majority of people in the image by placing them in a group.
Canon 50d, canon 430II flash hand held.
In photoshop I  adjusted levels, cropped the images and uploaded to photobox.
I researched Newlands House to obtain more background information and added this to the information I had taken from Emily Starky at the event. She was a little reluctant to give me the information stating that she had emailed the paper, but I prefer to have some background to the events that I am photographing and I like to write my own editorial to accompany my images. This editorial is sometimes added into the piece and is good experience and practise for me.

  1. Good photographs, think you've managed to capture the spirit of the event. I like the concept of this blog, nice to see how your work is shaped and influenced by the photographers you are looking to x
